Frequently Asked Questions for Students – COVID-19

MSSU has been working on plans to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 to our MSSU community. Below are FAQs addressing a number of questions for students. If you do not see a question you need answered here please contact Student Affairs at 417-625-9392 or studentaffairs@mssu.edu.

Distance Learning Questions

Will I have to pay extra if my instructor uses Respondus Monitor for online tests?

No, student charges have been waived for the remainder of the semester by Respondus, Inc.

If students are using testing facilities other than Missouri Southern’s, they will most likely be charged a fee.

Bursar Questions

How do I set up an Electronic Refund (eRefund) Account?

Below is information from the Bursar’s Office to show you how to set up an electronic refund account with Missouri Southern if you are due a refund.  If you have questions, you can email the Bursar’s Office (bursar@mssu.edu) for answers.

Using the MSSU Payment Portal (https://www.mssu.edu/paymybill), select “Student Login”.

Then log in here, just as you would log in to LioNet or your student email:

Choose “Electronic Refunds” under “My Profile Setup”.

If you haven’t set up two-step verification, you will be asked to do so at this point. (If you have already set up two-step verification, you can skip this step.)

Select “Set up Account”

Enter your account information in the form. Be sure to enter the account number backward in the “Confirm account number” box. At the bottom of the form under the “Save payment method as” box enter a nickname for your account. Click Continue.

Next review the information you entered and read the disclosures. If everything entered is correct and you agree to the disclosures click the box next to “I Agree”. Then click “Continue”.

The next screen will show that the eRefund account has been saved.
If you ever need to change your eRefund account to a new account or if you entered something incorrectly and it cannot be verified, you can update or remove the account by clicking the settings icon.

Residence Life Questions

Will I be refunded money when I check out of the residence halls?

You will receive a pro-rated amount of money for housing and meals to your student account based on the date you complete checkout.

How much refund will I receive?

The amount of refund varies based on date of checkout, housing style and meal plan.

Do I need to find a Resident Assistant (RA) or other Housing staff to complete checkout?

No. Students can do a self-checkout by removing all personal items, cleaning your living space, and returning key(s) and volunteer leave form to the drop box outside the Resident Director Office in Blaine Hall room 106. The leave form and packet to place key(s) and write mailing address are available in Blaine Hall Lobby.

When do the residence halls close?

The residence halls will close at 5:00 PM Friday, March 27.

Can I submit request to stay for duration of the semester?

 Yes. Request to stay past closing can be submitted on Lionet by completing the Spring 2020 Special Housing Request form. Access the form by clicking the Housing Application and Form link under the Campus Housing section header in Lionet.

If I checkout, will I be refunded Dining Dollars?

Dining Dollars are a part of the meal plan. You will receive a pro-rated refund of the meal plan based on date you checkout.

Will food service in Mayes Dining Hall still operate?

Yes, meals will continue to be served to residents.

Will the Mayes Student Life Center be open?

Yes, but only through 2:00 PM Friday, March 27. Services will be limited to collecting mail/packages, accessing the computer lab, and doing laundry. Large group gatherings will be restricted.

How will mail be handled if I move out?

 Mail will be forwarded to the address provided on the checkout key packet. First-Class mail and packages from the United State Post Office can be forwarded to addresses within the United States. Packages from UPS, FedEx or DHL will need to be picked up in person by recipient or person approved by the recipient. Notice of pick up approval should be e-mailed to the Residence Life Office (ResidenceLife@mssu.edu)

I do not plan to return to the residence halls, but am unable to retrieve personal items from room immediately. What can I do to avoid being charged?

 If you’re unable to return to campus immediately to retrieve your items, please e-mail the Residence Life Office (ResidenceLife@mssu.edu).

Bookstore Questions

Can I return my rental textbooks?

No, we are not accepting the return of rental texts.

Can I order books from the online bookstore?

No, we are not filling online orders at this time.
